This is the first of three webinars, during which we’ll progress from the very first stages of teaching sounds, through to developing essential literacy skills.
In this initial webinar, we’ll introduce the Archie’s World Phonics programme. We’ll also explore ways to make the most of course components in the classroom, such as phonics resources and your Teacher’s Guide. Then, we’ll suggest some practical activities for implementing phonics learning through raising phonemic and phonological awareness. Our special guest, Archie, will guide you through the magical world of phonics!

In the second webinar, we’ll look at routines in phonics teaching and start mapping sounds onto their corresponding graphemes. We’ll use air writing and the Phonics Activity Book to practise handwriting skills. Then, we’ll discover several practical and dynamic classroom activities, to start developing the blending and segmenting skills necessary for reading and writing. Finally, we’ll explore some ideas for introducing and consolidating tricky words through practical games and decodable books. Are you ready to see Archie again?

Archie’s World Phonics: Moving Ahead

In the final webinar of the Archie’s World Phonics series, we’ll work with the more complex sounds that are represented by digraphs. We’ll discuss practical activities, tips and ideas for working on and consolidating those sounds and learn how to use them in context with the Phonics Activity Book and decodable stories. We’ll address tricky words and contractions, and advance towards reading full sentences. We’ll practise writing through segmenting, and learn about sound features such as length, the number of syllables and voiced and voiceless sounds. Enjoy this session with Archie!
